Heather Harmon, Brooke,melanie Friend

event for the University, Rome, 14.11.2008

Dear readers, we're back with a post a bit 'unusual. In this climate of unrest on the themes of the University, Art & Science of the team could not stand by and took to the streets along with tens of thousands of students, graduate students, researchers and precarious. We have demonstrated in protest against the indiscriminate cuts to the state funding to universities under the DL 133 and a desire for reform to state that there must be and must focus on meritocracy, research and young people. A reform that must identify and eliminate waste, the baronies and Chairs unnecessary; a reform that must streamline and make the system competitive university and research institutions, but should be based on a reorganization of state funds and not be preceded by a series cuts unprecedented.

When a country does not invest in research and the University means that there is no real interest in the future, and therefore for the future of young people. Although it is true that the timing is delicate and there is no money, it is also true that the costs of the policy do not fall, the fight against tax evasion is not as hard as expected, the fight against the mafia and even continue to spend a lot of money for the military missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. It 's a matter of priority. Clearly the priorities of this government are others.

The following video is a little taste of the event on Friday 14 in Rome. For all those who were there and want to see what they have lost, but there has been but also for those who want to relive some moments ...

... The important thing is not to stop at simple "No to 133", but start to offer an alternative to the current university system, which many are already doing. Why change things and it must be possible!
